California Health Insurance Mandate. Most Californians must have minimum healthcare coverage as of January 1, 2020 or will be subject to penalties.

California to enforce new Individual Health Care Mandate:

Beginning January 1, 2019 the federal government (IRS) health insurance mandate’s penalties were eliminated – the penalties for not maintaining health insurance no longer exist.  However, during the summer of 2019 the State of California enacted its own health care mandate (with subsidies and penalties), similar to the federal program, which will require most Californians, along with their spouses and dependents, to have minimum health care coverage as of January 1, 2020.  The California penalty will be up to $695 per individual.  Open enrollment for California is scheduled to begin.  November 1, 2019.
